Crawford Hoying Announces Development of State-of-the-Art Rickenbacker Cold Storage Logistics Center

December 7, 2022

Crawford Hoying is pleased to share the development of the state-of-the-art Rickenbacker Cold Storage Logistics Center located at 2099 John Glenn Avenue, adjacent to the Rickenbacker International Airport, in Columbus, Ohio.

Rickenbacker Cold Storage Logistics Center is the first speculative freezer facility built in Ohio in a generation. Crawford Hoying developed this capital-intensive project in an effort to provide the Columbus region with a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient offering that could compete on a national level to attract critical cold-chain end users to the market.

"We are grateful for the support of our municipal partners and are thrilled that their commitment to this project resulted in SK Food Group selecting Columbus as the place to grow its international supply chain,” said Nelson Yoder, Principal of Crawford Hoying Development. “This is a great win for our region."

After a regional search, major food manufacturer Premium Brands Holding Corporation selected the building to serve its existing international network of SK Food Group manufacturing facilities located across the US and Canada. The building’s advanced energy-saving features and its comprehensive approach to meeting the highly specialized functional and operation needs of food-grade cold storage users were important factors in the selection.

“Crawford Hoying once again identified an area of commercial real estate that was underserved and provided a best-in-class solution,” said Joe Kimener, Vice President of CBRE. “Cold chain logistics is essential for both food and pharmaceutical operations and with this facility the Midwest has a moresecure supply chain.”

The building’s 50-foot clear height provides over 6 million cubic feet of freezer space that can be maintained at temperatures as low as 10 degrees below zero. This project includes a green refrigeration system, a specialized high efficiency building envelope with heated floor, and a massive fire suppression system complete with a 300,000-gallon water tank.
